Install used harddrive to elder PC beside no jumper?

I am currently trying to install my harddrive (which is newer) to my dad's computer (which is roughly speaking five years old). Both hardrives have Win XP running. I want to get the files bad of my harddrive. If I can I would like to amass those files to a disk once I can get onto my drive. I do not entail to transfer the files to the other harddrive. I already took out my dad's harddrive and enjoy tried to install mine. However I keep getting a "NTLDR is missing" error. I also tried to install both at impossible to tell apart time (this is what the guy at the computer shop told me to do since i could "pick" which harddrive to load). But when I do that I get a " operating system not found" error. I can not found a pullover cable anywhere my dad's harddrive did not use one. Is there anything I can do? To bring the files I need sour of my harddrive? My dad's computer is an HP Pavilion 7865. My harddrive is a Seagate model # ST360021A (60gb). I am not sure if my personal harddrive used any jumpers. Thank you!

Look on the ending of the hardrive itself, between the power cable (4pin cable) and the wide video like facts cable. There should be a series of small pins. One of them should have a pullover already placed. Useally the hard drive have a diagram showing the different settings. Set the one you want to boot from as Master, the other slave,If you still get the message NTLdr missing, you will hold to reinstall the operating system. As a rule you cannot move a hard drive from one computer to another unless they are one and the same computer models.
