Internet Connection Speed?

My uncle signed up next to a 384-KBps internet connection. We've set a home see with two PCs. But why do my downloads indicate that I am downloading at 6kbps - 34kbps maximum if my internet nouns is 384kbps?

Internet Connection Speed?

could be the server your downloading from, or if your downloading using p2p then they arn't uploading at impossible to tell apart bandwidth
384kbps = 48 KB/s

kilobits not equal to kilobytes
384 is kilobits per second. Your download speed is measured in kilobytes per second. 1 kilobyte=8 kilobits. So your maximum download speed beside a 384k connection is going to be 48k. Take roughly speaking %10 of that off for TCP/IP overhead.
